phpMyDirectory

Full Description

Building using PHP and MySQL, phpMyDirectory can be used for general web directories, business directories, classified advertising, link indexing, and other purposes.

Promising easy installation, the directory includes more than thirty built-in payment gateways, including PayPal, 2Checkout, Authorize.net, and others. Site listings are displayed on pages with URLs that are search engine friendly, and which use custom page titles and meta tags, as well as sitemaps with automatic submission.

Listing options include image, document and classifieds modules, logos and banners, Google PageRank calculation, reviews and ratings. Users may claim listings, make suggestions, or report abuse. Other options include Google, Bing or MapQuest maps, and custom fields.

An unlimited number of highly configurable categories may be created, with as many levels or text fields as desired. Submitted sites may be automatically published to the directory or kept on hold for administrative review.

phpMyDirectory uses HTML-based templates. A template editor/manager is available, and child templates may be utilized. More than ten custom field types may be utilized, including date and HTML fields. Custom pages with HTML content may also be added, along with custom menu links and page-specific template files.

All data is filtered and controlled, and regular security audits may be run. The software allows for SSL certificate support, a CAPTCHA, including reCaptcha support. Specified words, URLs and IP addresses can be banned, and email confirmation may be required.

On the date of this review (May 17, 2013), the cost of a license for phpMyDirectory is $99.95, valid for one domain, and including lifetime support and one year free of new version download access. After the initial purchase, additional licenses are offered for 50% off.

Optional add-ons, at various prices, include professional installation, a blog, discount codes, frequently asked questions, a reciprocal link checker, site links, website screenshots, a zip code database, and an unbranded administrative area. Other services available, for a fee, include download renewals, upgrade services, premium support, license ownership transfers, web hosting, and SSL certificates.

  1. PhpMyDirectory, in my opinion, is the complete package. A very flexible script, highly customizable, excellent support, and best of all, its backed by a great community forum. I can’t say enough good things about them.

I have owned or had admin access to directories using Directory Press, eSyndicat, PHP Link Directory, WSN Links, and a few other now defunct directory scripts, but I have never tried PhpMyDirectory. I thought about buying it awhile back but opted for eSyndicat instead; as I recall, I couldn’t decide between the two so I went with the less expensive one. As it is, I have been playing around with it, unsure whether I’ll ever put anything together, but there isn’t anything to dislike about it. I’ve seen some good directories using PhpMyDirectory.
