Campgrounds/RV Parks

Although the terms "camp" and "campground" may have other definitions, for the purpose of categorization within this directory, it will be regarded a campsite or recreational outdoor sleeping site, a recreational vehicle site, or a summer camp, whether intended for children, adults, or specific types of people.

When the number of listings within the category warrants subcategorization, this category will be subcategorized according to the nature of the camp, such as separating RV parks from summer children's camps. Of course, since this is a directory of directories, only directories of camps or campsites should submitted to this category.

A summer camp is a supervised program conducted during the summer months. Generally such camps are intended for children or teenagers, although there are summer camps for adults and families as well. Children, teens, or adults attending a summer camp are referred to as campers. In most camps intended for children and teens, the adult supervisors are referred to as counselors or cabin leaders, and are often in their late teens or early twenties.

Summer camps may be specialized. There are, for example, camps whose programs focus on the performing arts, music, magic, mathematics, or computers; or the focus of the camp may be on specific needs, or types of campers, such as camps for children with special needs, weight loss camps, and camps intended for inner city children. Other camps are operated by or for Christians, Jewish people, or certain ethnic groups. Other camps are operated by youth organizations, such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts, or the YMCA.

Campers might stay for the summer, a couple of weeks, or a week during the summer.

Similar to summer camps, where the weather permits, some camps are operated year-round, while others are intended only for day programs, and are generally referred to as day camps, while those that include overnight stays may be called residential camps or sleep-away camps.

A campsite or campground may be intended for adults or families, and are places that are set aside for overnight stays in the outdoors. Typically, campgrounds are open pieces of ground where campers can pitch a tent or park a camper. Usually, a fee is charged and reservations are often required.

A campground may offer very few amenities, but many will include fireplaces or fire pits in which to safely build campfires, road access for vehicles, picnic tables or a dining area, raised platforms on which tents may be pitched, piped potable water, showers, outhouses or flush toilets, or a small convenience store.

Many campgrounds include pull-through spaces for recreational vehicles, travel trailers and campers, which may include utility hookups for gas, propane, water, electricity, and sewer. Others, called RV parks, are intended for recreational vehicles, although these may also include primitive tenting sites or rental cabins. Apart from the amenities mentioned above, RV parks may include television and telephone connections, wireless Internet connections, and other amenities.
